Vector Canoe Question About Vectors?

Question about vectors? - vector canoe

Mo and Dave are crossing in a canoe on a river too far. Its speed is represented by a vector, v = u0026lt, 0, 15>. The stream that runs from east to west at 5 mph can be represented by a vector, v = u0026lt, -5, 0>. What is the proper representation of the two in his boat? What is your actual speed?

Thank you!

I think it means that it is your speed in calm water
v = u0026lt, 0, 15>. Otherwise, if v is the speed is made in the current.

Under the assumption that the first real representation in his boat

\\ \\ \\ \\ \\ \\ \\ \\ U0026lt, 0, 15> + \\ \\ \\ \\ \\ \\ \\ \\ u0026lt, -5, \\ 0> = \\ \\ \\ \\ \\ \\ \\ u0026lt, -5, 15>.

Your current speed is:

s = √ [(-5) ² + 15 ²] = √ (25 + 225) = √ 250 = 5 √ 10 ≈ 15.811 mph
